What is prompt engineering?
and why does it matter?
If you ask a generic question, Gen AI will spit out a generic response.
The responses are like mirrors to our prompts.
At the Microsoft Boot Camp, prompt engineering came up a few times.
But What is so amazing about it?
I have been using ChatGPT for a year.
So, I wondered.
It sounded like a loaded word. Like "Digital transformation" or "headless commerce".
It is a fancy way of saying- Ask better Qs.
Here is the kicker though.
Prompt engineering is the vehicle to democratize the power of Gen AI.
It must seep into the users if Gen AI has to make a mass impact.
Gen AI could automate 70% of tasks.
It can add $4.4 trillion to the global economy.
That will only happen if everyone is participating.
Prompt engineering is science and creative art.
It functions on four core pillars.
•Goal- what is the task?
•Context - why you are doing something?
• Expectations - defining the output format, tone, style, length.
• Sources - Sighting sources for information
OpenAI has published its guide for prompt engineering.
All major companies have their guides for prompt engineering too.
Gen AI will produce everything "quickly".
but prompt engineering is useful in:
•Creating high-quality, tailored content for their audience in their tone.
•Developement to generate code snippets, debug existing code, or even create entire programs.
•AI-powered chatbots to understand and respond to customer queries.
•creating interactive learning experiences.
•interpreting medical data and providing preliminary diagnoses or treatment suggestions
•Analyzing market data, predicting trends, and offering investment advice.
